Duchesne County has 320 paved roads and over 700
miles of gravel road to maintain each year. We have 24 employees, made up of truck
drivers, operators, mechanics, secretary and a supervisor.
In the winter we are kept busy with snow
removal, crushing natural asphalt, and building up roads for summertime paving. In the
summer we grade and patch roads, crush gravel, cut weeds along roadsides, oil and gravel
roads.
We are very fortunate to have our own county
owned natural asphalt pit. Tarsands heals itself when it is warm so crack sealing is not
required. This is a great savings for tax payers.
The Road Department owns 30 pieces of equipment
which consists of, end dumps, belly dumps, graders, back hoes, loaders, dozers, scrapers,
water trucks and paving equipment.
When ever any one needs to install anything
across or along side a county road, a permit is issued for this. A $75.00 non-refundable
fee is charged with every permit issued To cross pavement it is $1,000.00. To cross dirt
it is $500.00. After two years the cut is inspected and if found in satisfactory condition
the money is returned.
The Road Department works very hard to keep our
roads in good condition. We feel that we are a vital resource to the county.

Weed control is an all important job for all
land owners in the county. A weed is just a misunderstood flower! We have a lot of
misunderstood flowers in our County. Some weeds are beautiful but the spread of them is
not. And some are poisonous
Each year in Duchesne County we use over $30,000
dollars worth of herbicides for the control of noxious weeds on right of ways and to help
the landowners
Duchesne County has a COOP agreement with other
agencies such as, D.W.R, State Lands, B.L.M and Forest Service to help control this
problem.
Weeds are spread by several ways such as wind,
equipment, stock, wildlife, and water. Some of the noxious weeds can be dug up and
destroyed, others need to be sprayed. We all need to do our part to control weeds on our
own lands.
The county will sell chemicals at a cost to the
land owners. Round up will not be on the list of chemicals to sell. If you need more
information you may contact, USU Extension Agent, Troy Cooper, State Ag. Agent, Dave
Wilson or the County weed Supervisor, Ron Johnson.
